After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as an aircrewman for two years in VR21 West Pacific stationed in Barbers Point, Hawaii.  This tour of duty took him to many parts of the world including Wake Island, Guam, Philippines, Thailand, Japan, and Vietnam.

After this enlistment he returned to Memphis where he married his wife Nadirah and from this union four beautiful children Habibah, Yasmeen, Wali Ibn, and Rashid.   Wali graduated from Draughon’s Business College and State Technical Institute at Memphis in Business Administration and Business Technology with a minor in Accounting.

In 1971 he was in a most unusual way introduced to the teachings of Islam by Lawrence “Pookie” Palmer and accepted those teachings in 1973 as presented by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.  Wali welcomed the teachings of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed in 1975, and has worked in various capacities at Mosque #60 –B in Nashville, Tennessee under the leadership of Imam Illyas Muhammad and at Masjid Al Mu’minun in Memphis, Tennessee under the leadership of resident Imam Rashad Sharif.

Wali Shaheed has possessed a spirit of entrepreneurship for a great part of his life.  Wali, in the 1980’s, along with business associates, formed  Bilalian International Trade and Commerce (this inspired by the leadership of Imam W.D.Mohammed) which transitioned to Tiijara International, a wholesale distributorship.  Wali is a principal in Healing Water, Inc. a distributor of natural spring water and is presently the Financial Officer of Cocaine Alcohol Awareness Program, Inc., a provider of premium behavior health services in Memphis.

The greatest urge in Wali Shaheed now is to work to establish model community life based upon the revealed word of G’d, the life example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the example, commentary and perception of imam W.D. Mohammed.
