Statement on Ground Zero

With Allah’s Name, The Merciful Benefactor, The Merciful Redeemer

The CGG recognizes the constitutional right of freedom of religion. We understand this to mean that as citizens of the United States of America, we have the right to practice our beliefs. We also understand this to mean we have the right to establish our places of worship; however, as conscious citizens we are mindful of the sensitivities surrounding the establishment of a Masjid in the vicinity of Ground Zero. We understand that publicity of the 9-11 tragedy has not represented Islam or Muslims favorably. We understand that this negative publicity has also impacted the loved ones of the victims of the 9-11 tragedy as well as the American public in general. Considering this, we recommend that further dialog be initiated prior to the establishment of an Islamic house of worship at the Ground Zero/Park 51 location. We welcome the opportunity to dialog with those who are willing to work towards a healthy religious and social atmosphere. Our community consists of qualified Imams, Politicians, business persons, educators and social advocates who welcome the opportunity to dialog and assist in bringing a more harmonious resolution to the Ground Zero/Park 51 issue.
